Resveratrol Reduces Breast Cancer Risk by Blocking the Effect of Estrogen


Researchers from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Calabria in Italy publishing in The FASEB Journal report that resveratrol blocks the effect of estrogen and can help to prevent the malignant growth of breast cancer in women. The grape/red wine derivative has been the subject of numerous scientific studies in recent years and has shown promise in lowering risks from cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia.

Scientists also believe the protective nutrient may extend healthy lifespan by directly influencing mortality genes known as SIRT. Italian researchers noted "Resveratrol is a potential pharmacological tool to be exploited when breast cancer become resistant to the hormonal therapy." Health-minded adults will want to include resveratrol from natural food sources or supplementation to reap the numerous health benefits.

Resveratrol Supplementation Suppresses the Growth of Malignant Breast Cancer Cells
To design their study, researchers used several breast cancer cell lines expressing the estrogen receptor to test the effects of resveratrol. They exposed the different cells to a solution containing resveratrol and compared the results to cells left untreated. They found an important reduction in cell growth in cells treated with resveratrol, while no changes were seen in untreated cells. Further experiments determined that this effect was caused by a critical reduction in estrogen receptors caused by the administration of resveratrol.

This finding is the first of its kind as it relates specifically to the effect of resveratrolon a particular cancer cell line. The team was able to conclude that resveratrol is able to counteract the malignant progression of breast cancer cells by inhibiting the growth and spread of hormone resistant cancerous cells. This has important implications for the treatment of women with breast cancer whose tumors eventually develop resistance to hormonal therapy.

Resveratrol Specifically Targets Cancerous Cells to Fight Breast Cancer
Lead researcher Dr. Sebastiano Ando noted "Resveratrol is a potential pharmacological tool to be exploited when breast cancer become resistant to the hormonal therapy." A peer review board examining the study data concluded “scientists havent finished distilling the secrets of good health that have been hidden in natural products such as red wine.” It is important to note that in this body of research, resveratrol only demonstrated an effect on malignant cancer cells and exerted no effect on non-cancerous cells.

While the authors cautioned that people should not go out and start using red wine or resveratrol supplements as a treatment for breast cancer, the finding strongly indicates that the plant-protective compound should be considered as a component in an overall plan designed to prevent the devastating disease. Nutrition experts recommend a supplemental intake (from a purified, organically derived source) of between 50 and 250 mg per day for optimal health benefits.

Questions Surrounding Avandia� and its Effect on Bone


A small study to be published in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism found that postmenopausal women who took Avandia® (rosiglitazone) at 8mg/day for 14 weeks had greater reductions in hip bone density than women in a control group:
  • - Total hip bone density fell in the Avandia group by 1.9%
  • - Total hip bone density fell in the placebo group by 0.2%
Leading authors to conclude:
"Short-term therapy with rosiglitazone exerts detrimental skeletal effects, by inhibiting bone formation."

A reduction in bone density could increase the risk of fractures. That wont be welcome news to women with diabetes who already experience an increased risk of fractures - a finding reported by this journal last year.

"Morgan Stanley said in a note that an osteoporosis warning was now "very likely" to be added to the drugs label."

Effect Against Smoking Teeth


Various posts and articles may be difficult to review a lot of cigarettes and the dangers posed. but here I want to review special cigarettes effects on oral health and dental. semuga helpful and always ask advice and getting the impression that this post is perfect.

why smoking is closely associated with oral health? obviously it can easily be answered, because the cigarette is inhaled through the mouth (ga I think there are other places to smoke cigarettes ^ ^). It can easily take a look at a smokers lips look darker than the lip of a non-smoker, why?

In general, we know that there are cigarettes in Indonesia there are 2 types, cigarettes with filter and without filter (better known as clove cigarettes). Cigarettes without filters tend to quickly change the color of your teeth on a cigarette with a filter.

Now let us follow the trail of cigarette smoke why so many organs "of the body injured. Once we inhale cigarette smoke from a cigarette into the oral cavity, a few seconds of cigarette smoke with millions of substances" are chemicals in the oral cavity and affects the tissues and organs that have in the oral cavity including the teeth themselves. Hot smoke that blow continuously into the oral cavity is a heat stimulus that causes changes in blood flow and reduce expenses saliva. Consequently mouth becomes dry and more an-aerobic (acid-free atmosphere) so as to provide a suitable environment for the growth of an-aerobic bacteria in plaque. By itself smokers are at greater risk of becoming infected with the bacteria that causes tooth supporting tissue disease than those who smoked.

Gum smokers also tend to experience a thickening layer of horn. This thickened area that looks rougher than the surrounding tissue and reduced elasticity. Narrowing of the blood vessels caused by nicotine resulted in reduced blood flow in the gums thus increasing the likelihood of the onset of gum disease.

Tar in cigarette smoke also increases the chances of gingivitis, gum disease is most often caused by plaque bacteria and other factors which may cause the accumulation of plaque around the gums. Tar can be deposited on the surface of the tooth and the root of the tooth so that the surface becomes rough and facilitate attachment of plaque. Of differences in the research that has been carried out plaque and tartar more formed in the oral cavity of smokers compared to nonsmokers. Disease severe tooth supporting tissues, bone loss and tooth loss tooth advocate more common in smokers than non-smokers. In the treatment of dental tissue disease patients pendukund smokers need greater care and more. Whereas in patients with non-smokers and in the same situation quite simply do standard maintenance such as cleaning of plaque and tartar.

Severity of illness arising from moderate to advanced level directly related to the number of cigarettes smoked each day how long or how many years a person becomes a smoker and smoking status itself, is still smoking or had stopped until now.
Nicotine plays a role in starting the tooth supporting tissue disease because nicotine can be absorbed by the oral soft tissues including the gums through the blood flow and the attachment of the gum to the tooth surface and root. Nicotine can be found on the root surface of the tooth and its metabolites kontinin results can be found in the gums fluid.

It can be concluded that losses arising from the habit of smoking on oral health:

1. Discoloration of the teeth, gums and lips.
2. Dental caries will be quickly formed.
3. The possibility of cancer in the mouth very large networks.
4. Clear breath smelled of cigarettes.
5. Changing the network "in the mouth that cause a variety of negative impacts on oral health itself as a trigger terbantuknya caries.
