Family Blessings

Hi,

I really enjoyed seeing my family again after all these years but the driving trip was a bit painful on the body. I think part of the reason was that I was not able to keep up my swimming. I had purposefully planned my stays at motels that advertised that they had pools but not a one of them was either open or in any kind of condition that I would have wanted to dip my body into them. So as the time went on my body was in more pain.

I think part of it was the lugging of stuff, too. I planned the way I used to plan when I took road trips when I was young, which means that I took anything and everything that I thought I might be able to use in an emergency. I am very thankful that God was in charge of this trip and I could see Him working and feel Him taking care of me the whole entire way. Nearly every door was held open by someone who just happened to be there when I was. The people in the USA are kind hearted, good, and helpful people and a pleasure to be around.

I really enjoyed the 50th anniversary party. My sister and her husband were completely surprised, too. My sister suspected something was up but did not know what and did not know that so many of her family and neighbors and friends would be there to help them celebrate. For me it felt good that I had been there at their wedding and I was there again on their 50th. It ended up being a song fest that many of us participated in. Great fun!! I spent the next day at their house with her kids and grand kids popping in all day. She was disappointed when I left to go to the motel because she wanted me to stay at her house, but I really could not have made it up the stairs to the second level to sleep.

Visiting with my brothers was a jewel, too. When I actually laid eyes on my younger brother in his living room, it moved me to tears and I could barely speak. It was so good to see him, his wife, and his family. I really loved getting to know his sons new wife and their daughter for the first time, and seeing my niece and her son was awesome, too. Everyone had changed but we all knew one another. They took me to the most awesome buffet Ive ever been to near Canton, Ohio but I dont recall the name exactly. It was at Beldon village mall and I hope I get to go there again some time.

When I got to Michigan and my older brother walked out I was really shocked to see how much he looked like Dad to me. He and his beautiful hospitable wife insisted that I stay longer than two days with them and I ended up staying at least a week. I needed the rest and recuperation, so I complied.  I could have stayed longer but had trouble finding one of my high blood pressure OTC medicines and needed to get home to my spare bottle. I wish I had taken it with me. I had enough for the length I had planned but when I stayed longer I began to run out.

They were kind enough to prepare meals with no tomatoes (I shared with them that I am allergic) and provided fresh vegetables so I had a salad at nearly every meal. It was delicious and wonderful. The only problem I had was being offered sweet treats like little cakes and such in the evening. I started off using but soon began to partake. My brother even bought me an entire bag of veggie potato chips which I tried hard to eat only a little to be polite, but ended up, binging on one evening. I did not finish the whole bag but it was a serious binge.

I also enjoyed the visit with their youngest son who lives in a group home a few miles from them. It was odd to see my nephew with grey hair when for most of his life he had lovely dark hair. Time marches on.

I loved getting to know and to hold my newest great grand nephew and getting to be around his Mom and her brothers, my grand nephews, too. It was very good to visit with their Mom, too... only wish we could have spent a little more time together. Her husband, my older nephew, passed away a few years ago. Each one of them came when they could spare some time and visited for as short or long as they could during the week. I dont know them as well as I know my sisters kids but they are good, loving, and kind people. Young and working hard toward their futures. I loved being around the young people in my family.

When I finally got back home it was a bit of a shock. I dont know why, but it was a bit emotional for a day or so until I got back in the swing of my own life down here in Georgia. I stepped on the scale for the first time and had lost 1/2 a pound which surprised me as I had fasted while driving and actually thought at different times that I might have gone down quite a bit by the way my clothes were fitting.

Ive been back about 5 days and have already fasted twice and seem to be doing 16:8 (16 hours no eating, 8 hours eating -- not constantly but able to have meals!) because I still dont have any food in the house. I need to rectify that but I did not want to go food shopping while I was fasting so postponed it until today, although, at this moment, I dont feel like going shopping. Perhaps Ill get the motivation a little later in the day.

I re-read my last post and am ready to begin the new program I wrote about of eating veggies and protein, fasting twice a week, and having a 1-hour cheat meal on Saturdays. Im not sure I will lose weight but I am sure I will feel better. My experience of eating the veggies at my brothers house was a good one and reminded me of what a lovely and satisfying way of eating that is.

I was allowed to make my salad myself so they were just as I wanted them. I cut up fresh broccoli in bite sized pieces. Peeled and sliced cucumber and then put Italian dressing on the large bowl. Then also ate whatever protein they had. Once my brother made sauerkraut and pork like Mom made it with the addition of caraway seeds, just as he and I like it, and that was excellent. I finished up the left overs over the next couple of days.

They did not seem to eat left overs but when the grand kids came by, they all expected to partake. I see that is a way of life for them. They cook their meals making sure there are leftovers and then when the grandsons or granddaughter show up they go to the fridge and eat. They know they can come starving and Grandma and Grandpa are happy to have food for them.

My brother also made individual cheese omelets for breakfast in a special enamel coated pan that he has which is two small pans hinged together so you just have to flip the pan over to cook the other side. Very cool and really tasty. Good breakfast, too: veg and protein. I might look for one, myself. He mentioned it was advertised for pancakes but the omelet is a better idea.

One good thing that has happened is that I am now on a better sleeping schedule. My bedtime is now 11 p.m instead of 2 a.m. and Im liking that a lot. I do see it creeping past that a little, but so far, Ive gone to bed before 2 every night and am getting up earlier, too. It is nice to have the early part of the day to do things in. Ive gone swimming twice and my body is in much less pain, too. So my next full project is getting the eating plan underway.

Well, that is where I have been and where I am now.

Be back soon,
Marcia

Resveratrol Reduces Breast Cancer Risk by Blocking the Effect of Estrogen

Researchers from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Calabria in Italy publishing in The FASEB Journal report that resveratrol blocks the effect of estrogen and can help to prevent the malignant growth of breast cancer in women. The grape/red wine derivative has been the subject of numerous scientific studies in recent years and has shown promise in lowering risks from cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia.

Scientists also believe the protective nutrient may extend healthy lifespan by directly influencing mortality genes known as SIRT. Italian researchers noted "Resveratrol is a potential pharmacological tool to be exploited when breast cancer become resistant to the hormonal therapy." Health-minded adults will want to include resveratrol from natural food sources or supplementation to reap the numerous health benefits.

Resveratrol Supplementation Suppresses the Growth of Malignant Breast Cancer Cells
To design their study, researchers used several breast cancer cell lines expressing the estrogen receptor to test the effects of resveratrol. They exposed the different cells to a solution containing resveratrol and compared the results to cells left untreated. They found an important reduction in cell growth in cells treated with resveratrol, while no changes were seen in untreated cells. Further experiments determined that this effect was caused by a critical reduction in estrogen receptors caused by the administration of resveratrol.

This finding is the first of its kind as it relates specifically to the effect of resveratrolon a particular cancer cell line. The team was able to conclude that resveratrol is able to counteract the malignant progression of breast cancer cells by inhibiting the growth and spread of hormone resistant cancerous cells. This has important implications for the treatment of women with breast cancer whose tumors eventually develop resistance to hormonal therapy.

Resveratrol Specifically Targets Cancerous Cells to Fight Breast Cancer
Lead researcher Dr. Sebastiano Ando noted "Resveratrol is a potential pharmacological tool to be exploited when breast cancer become resistant to the hormonal therapy." A peer review board examining the study data concluded “scientists havent finished distilling the secrets of good health that have been hidden in natural products such as red wine.” It is important to note that in this body of research, resveratrol only demonstrated an effect on malignant cancer cells and exerted no effect on non-cancerous cells.

While the authors cautioned that people should not go out and start using red wine or resveratrol supplements as a treatment for breast cancer, the finding strongly indicates that the plant-protective compound should be considered as a component in an overall plan designed to prevent the devastating disease. Nutrition experts recommend a supplemental intake (from a purified, organically derived source) of between 50 and 250 mg per day for optimal health benefits.

priority of Warming maturation Before Exercise

Since a lot of people are multifarious in irutable exercises, it is imperative that the accent of warming elaborating before any problematic activity should be discussed. profuse have repeatedly ignored going through the warm up formation before working out, not knowing the consequences direction background accordingly.

Why warm up? Several changes takes place in the body once physical activity is initiated. A person's respiratory rate, cardinal flow, further oxygen and nutrient levels delivered to the cells increases.

The rate of collect should be regulated mastery a steady pace to prepare the body for the physical apprehension that exercise consign demand. If one foregoes this priming procedure, the habitus will specialty less efficiently and the workout will win less repute results. Warming up preps elaborating the nervous system, heightens unhinged awareness and alertness, and loosens up joints and muscles to motivate them less prone to injuries. Warm ups jump starts the fluid located influence the joints, minimizing the hazard for wear again crack of the muscles. real gives the bull's eye a conducive period to adjust and pump up blood and nutrients into muscles.

This is vital through older people, since they presume true tissues that are less growing; they count on joints with less fluid, and weaker hearts.

Sudden exercise fault produce heart attacks to older people.

How does a partner scorching up properly? Initially, it can be done in lump procedure that enables the spotlight to beat faster. solo can simply pace besides jog, or if a cardiovascular equipment is available, such as rowing machine or a bicycle, it care be utilized. Start at a gentle pace, further then slowly increase the pace until heart beat rate increases and the build temperature rises. intrinsic important to note that the parade should be in accordance to one's current fitness level, where the activity entrust leave the comrade energized and not exhausted.

After working up a light sweat (suggested time is 3-5 minutes, longer if the person is working out in a below zero environment) one should accomplish dynamic stretching. Stretching helps in developing overall flexibility, particularly in the spine, shoulder, again hip areas. The kind of stretching depends on the type of activity a friend plans to engage to.

For instance, if one shot is about to show sports, the recommended amiable of stretching would serve as the ones that mimics the movements that entrust substitute done prestige the eree or field. If one is about to do martial arts, light sparring can be done juice the spot of the normal speed, or just neatly do the movements in slow force. equate certain that the major muscles groups are stretched whereas 8 seconds minimum. It is necessary to remember to keep feet moving or procure leg exercises whenever the upper body is stretched to keep prevent blood from pooling influence the legs. Remember, one should only do stretching if the muscles are already warmed up. Do not bounce while stretching. It leads to a contraction that incumbency result in muscle hole or pull.

For weight-lifters, this is what should enact done after the introductory warm increasing. charge the bar with about 50-60% of the heaviest charge to sell for done for the session and perform the number of repetitions that will be done over the terrible sets. For the second set, the weight will correspond to increased to 80%, then eventually to 90%, decreasing to 2-3 repetitions. Afterwards, rest seeing about 30 seconds, then repeat the steps.

After this warm up, one onus because proceed to the exposed lifting for the day. The return of doing the procedure is that the heavy sets will mood less daunting and answerability now put on performed squirrel considerably less stress.

After warming development and misfortune to the paramount workout, it is equally central to cool down. When a person suddenly stops exercising or lifting weights, blood gathers in the steam and oxygen is blocked. When this happens, a person runs the pledge of having a limelight attack. So cooling down should lap up the same importance as warming developing.

Exercise is good over the health. Everyone is encouraged to pump it up, just remember to remember all the necessary precautions not only to maximize the workout, but again to stay safe and flourishing.

Important tests with the use of steroids

In this article the most important blood tests to anyone who used steroids in the past, currently used or planned for use in the future.
Doping as we know have a negative impact on health, and increase the chances of many of the potential health risks, through an understanding of what is happening in your body and what impact will be able to reduce these risks to a minimum, and youll have the opportunity to do any necessary amendment by test results.
Rarely are conducting these tests for bodybuilders, but I would recommend that each player build objects conduct these tests at least once a year.

There are three types of tests to be performed:

Tests before the chorus (the rest period or by the use of steroids)
Tests during the course (while using steroids)
Tests after chorus (after the completion of the use of steroids)

We will discuss each type and then explain the details of the various tests:

Tests before the chorus (the rest period or by the use of steroids)

Hormones-steroids
Lipids-standard full Set
Full Liver Panel
Blood
Kidney
Electrolytes, Mineral and Glucose
Prostate

Are these tests before you start using steroids.
And are used: a erence to the basis of the nature of our bodies, verification of how the body is affected and the results of the use of steroids and to make sure that the levels returned to normal after the completion of use.
Use of these tests also to see if there was any possible health risks inherent can worsen with steroids, for example if you have high blood lipids and enzymes liver high, is not wise at all to start using steroids, but would be foolish start, you must make sure that all the results in the normal range and there is no problems. If it is, is taking personal decision if you want to start using steroids or not, we do not encourage the use of steroids in any form without medical supervision.

Tests during the course (while using steroids)

Lipids-standard full Set
Full Liver Panel
Blood
Kidney
Electrolytes, Mineral and Glucose

And are examination after 3-4 weeks of starting to use steroids, and then take a closer look at the results, to compare the results with your results basic (normal), if you notice affected very body to rate dangerous, must stop the use and start treatment required.

Tests after chorus (after the completion of the use of steroids)

Hormones-steroids LH / FSH
Lipids-standard full Set
Full Liver Panel
Blood
Electrolytes, Mineral and Glucose
Prostate

The most important thing here is to look at the male hormones, and to make sure that the levels close to the pre-session levels, Boukhat should not be the same, but as close as possible. It should also note a decrease in the level of liver enzymes and approached levels Alasaasah.

Now we will take a look at all of the contents of these tests by category and explain the important things.

Assays hormones Hormone Tests

steroid (male)
Name examination normal level
Total Testosterone 241-827 ng / dl
Free Testosterone 8.7-25.1 pg / ml
Estradiol 10-53 pg / ml

LH / FSH (male)
LH 2.5-9.8 IU / L
FSH 1.2-5.0 IU / L

Thyroid
Name of test
TSH .35-5.5 uIU / mL
Thyroxine 4.5-12.0 ug / dL
T3 Uptake 24-39%
Free thyroxine index 1.2-4.9
Steroids:
This Alachtbardobaa used to detect the level androgen person and see if they need treatment.
When you have a testosterone level naturally, but the top-level in the primary results of the examination should be up to the same level after dropping out of the use of steroids and before starting any other use. It is not enough to be just within the normal range.
Estradiol Estradiol is the active form of the hormone estrogen in the body, it is important to check during doping levels, the use of steroids is associated with higher estrogen levels, leading to side effects (such as water retention, fat, and breast growth Gaenkmastia any female character) , and the results of tests provides a good idea of estrogen Kamihamadadat that need.

Each of these hormones are responsible for stimulating testosterone production in the testes, and sperm production.
Should not worry too much if these values low during doping is of influence the natural use of steroids, since you take androgen external, stop the bodys production of androgen procedure, and is what Abb atrophy in Khjm testicles while using steroids without Astkhmam antibiotics or Catalysts .
The results of the examination after the chorus, check the levels of LH and FSH and plug it with testosterone levels, if the levels for the LH and FSH high and the level of testosterone is low, it could mean that the testicles have not returned to its former size and need more time and processing after chorus PCT.

Thyroid:
Results essential before using any doping is the most important tests of thyroid, has lifted doping levels of the thyroid glands slightly during use, but it is very unlikely that there is a lasting effect. If the levels of thyroid glands are still high after dropping out of use without showing any decline, you may need to check if there are any problems Algzh thyroid with your doctor.

Lipids (cardiovascular) tests

Lipids
Standard Full Set
Name examination normal level
Triglucerides 0-149 mg / dL
Total Cholesterol 100-199 mg / dL
HDL Cholesterol> 40 mg / dL
VLDL Cholesterol 5-40 mg / dL
LDL Cholsterol <100 mg / dL

apoB / apoA-I Ratio <.9 <.8

Apo Ratio Risk Assessment men women
Low Risk <.7 <.6
Average Risk 0.7-0.9 0.6-0.8
High Risk> 0.9> 0.8
Body fat testing is one of the most important tests that have to be made, it is known that steroid (reconstructive hormones and Androgyny) have a negative impact on blood fats, which increases the risk of heart disease and blood vessels.
Should monitor the results of these tests, and possible to increase these percentages Biskl slow, increasing proportions of each course, which increases the chances of cardiovascular disease, so one should be caul to keep the levels in the normal range health.
Standard Full Set:
The most important aspect of this examination is the ratio of HDL cholesterol with LDL cholesterol LDL / HDL ratio, where These Alnsphaltoazin lect the deposition of plaque from LDL cholesterol LDL and remove from Alclaustroa good HDL in the arteries. And use this ratio to evaluate the risk of heart disease, especially with people who have cholesterol levels.

Additional tests:
C-reactive protein and homocysteine: Both additional important signs in the examination of the health of the heart and blood vessels. C-reactive is a key indicator of inflammation in the body, while homocysteine involved in the oxidation of LDL cholesterol and blood clotting.

Full Liver Panel

Name examination normal level
Albumin 3.5-5.5 g / dL
Globulin 1.5-4.5 g / dL
Total Protein 6.0-8.5 g / dL
Bilirubin 0.1-1.2 mg / dL
GGT (Gamma GT) <50 IU / L
ALP (Alkaline Phospatase) 25-150 IU / L
AST (SGOT) 0-40 IU / L
ALT (SGPT) O-55 IU / L
We discussed these tests in our article (bodybuilding and the health of the liver), and will be discussed here again.
As we know many of steroids and private 17AA oral put pressure largely on the liver.
Enzymes ALT Alanine aminotransferase and AST Aspartate aminotransferase are the most important indicators that show how much stress is on the liver.
These indicators will be mostly mostly high with amphetamine users during use. However there have been cases where the values of these natural enzymes although there are problems in the liver, and this calls for additional tests for other indicators.

ALP Alkaline phosphatase and GGT gammaglutamyltranspeptidase both enzymes cholestatic biliary recession, which means they stop the flow of bile bile (yellow green liquid is produced by the liver and helps digestion).
Results with the rise of these indicators suggest bile duct obstruction (cholestasis intehepatic cholestasis), which means that the liver is no longer a functioning correctly metabolism and transport of yellow. Probably happened liver toxicity to the liver of dangerous steroids.

Materials must be taken to support liver function through the use of steroids, and if indicators continue increasing with use, you must discontinue use, then reading the article (objects and liver health) for more information.

Examine muscle enzyme Muscles enzymes test:

Name examination normal level
Creatine Kinase 38-174 u / L

Is used enzyme creatine kinase Creatine kinase enzyme CK as a marker of muscle damage, and kidney and heart damage.
And can increase levels naturally with exercise-intensity and endurance higher, and that sometimes leads to the belief that there were problems in sometimes for the heart and the potential risks of kidney, so The best test of this kind is after taking some rest after exercise intensive to achieve better results. If results are still showing high levels must work other tests to make sure the health of the heart and kidney ..

Blood tests:

Name examination normal level
WBC 4-11 K / MCL
RBC 81-103 FL
Platelet count 130-400 K / MCL
Hemoglobin 13-17 g / dL
Hematocrit 40.7-50.3 (men)%
36.1-44.3 (women)%
This examination is a very common, mostly everyone received him. The examination shows look good for public health.
During doping, because of their impact on eythropoiesis, the number of red blood cells, hematocrit and hemoglobin concentration tend to increase. This has a positive effect on aerobic capacity and increase oxygen loaded in the blood, but an increase in red blood cells may cause an increase in the thickness of the hematocrit blood, which increases the risk of heart attack or stroke.

Kidney tests:

Name examination normal level
Uric acid 3.0-7.0 mg / dL
Creatinine .5-1.5 mg / dL
BUN 5-26 mg / dL
BUN / creatinine ratio 8-27
Measured in this test three of the primary waste products that are Afrazha and filtered by the kidneys. And high levels indicate that there may be a serious problem in the kidney, and tests are taken again, especially to make sure of that.
Where some of the results may not indicate a real risk, for example eating a high protein raises nitrogen urea in the blood, and to bodybuilders eat a large amount of protein, so you should not worry about this indicator significantly, especially if a not combined with other indicators rises.

Electrolytes, Mineral and Glucose

Test Name Name examination normal level
Sodium 136-146 mEq / L
Potassium 3.6-5.2 mEq / L
Chloride 98-109 mEq / L
Bicarbonate (carbon dioxide) 21-30 mEq / L
Phosphorous 2.5-4.5 mg / dL
Calcium 8.5-10.5 mg / dL
Iron 35-185 mcg / dL
Glucose (fasting) 70-110 mg / dL

If there is a problem with fluid and Alaketrolitz balance, will appear in the results of this examination, although it may be due to something as simple as an imbalance of sodium or potassium, but it may also lect the more serious problems such as kidney disease.
Glucose level is good to see many health conditions such as metabolic syndromes, diabetes, and diseases of the pancreas, liver disease or kidney failure.

Prostate tests:

Test Name
PSA, serum 0.0-4.0 ng / mL
PSA Prostate-specific antigenPSA is a protein produced by prostate cells. High levels indicate cases of benign prostate hyperplasia or prostate cancer. May cause some steroids prostate enlargement, and if the problem list before you can use it with aggravated use.

This is a summary of the most important tests that must work with users of steroids. I know it may be difficult performance always, most of the players build objects Tfranjn, and these tests may cost more than the same courses!! And there are a lot of other expenses such as gym memberships, materials treatment after the chorus, eating, and supplements. No wonder that many or most of the bodybuilders examine only if the problem begins to emerge. But prevention is better than cure, you do this Alvhsosat at least once a year, will be assured on your health, and will address any problem if found in its early stages, and that will save you a lot of money and health.

Fish oil can boost the immune system

New research published in the Journal of Leukocyte Biology suggests that instead of suppressing the bodys immune response, fish oil actually enhances the function of B cells

Fish oil rich in DHA and EPA is widely believed to help prevent disease by reducing inflammation, but until now, scientists were not entirely sure about its immune enhancing effects. A new report appearing in the April 2013 issue of the Journal of Leukocyte Biology, helps provide clarity on this by showing that DHA-rich fish oil enhances B cell activity, a white blood cell, challenging the notion that fish oil is only immunosuppressive. This discovery is important as it shows that fish oil does not necessarily reduce the overall immune response to lower inflammation, possibly opening the doors for the use of fish oil among those with compromised immune systems.

"Fish oil may have immune enhancing properties that could benefit immunocompromised individuals," said Jenifer Fenton, Ph.D., M.P.H., a researcher involved in the work from the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.

To make this discovery, researchers used two groups of mice. One group was fed a control diet, and the other was fed a diet supplemented with DHA-rich fish oil for five weeks. B cells were harvested from several tissues and then stimulated in culture. Researchers then looked for markers of B cell activation on the cell surface, B cell membrane changes, and B cell cytokine production. They found that DHA-enriched fish oil enhanced B cell activation and select antibody production, which may actually aid immune responses associated with pathogen clearance, while possibly dampening the totality of the inflammatory response.

"This work confirms similar findings on fish oil and B cells from our lab, and moves us one step closer to understanding the immune enhancing properties of EPA and DHA," said S. Raza Shaikh, Ph.D., a researcher also involved in the work from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at East Carolina University.

Why Last Breath Odor While Fasting

Why Last Breath Odor While Fasting
When we fast in Ramadan, then a decrease in food intake / energy. This causes the body to mobilize energy reserves are there to replace the intake deficiency.

Then, there was a process called autolysis. Autolysis is the decomposition of fat reserves to be converted into energy.

When we fast the fat accumulated reserves will be used to meet the daily energy needs. At the same time, the release of chemicals that are bound in fats. The chemicals will be disposed of by the organs in charge of doing detoxification.

By fasting, the body will secrete large amounts of toxins through the bloodstream, pores, and other organs disposal. This is evident from the thickened layer of tongue and breath usually smells in the first days.

After fasting for health benefits continue in the days afterward, enhanced body cleansing process. Useless body fat, toxins accumulate in the bodys cells to be issued.

Diseased cells, dead cells, thickened mucus layer in the gut wall, blood flow wastes are removed through the liver, spleen, and kidneys. The body will use vitamins and minerals essential to get rid of toxins and old tissues. When the bodys toxic burden is reduced, the efficiency of each cell increased.

Thats why last breath odor while fasting. Read also prevent anemia during fasting.

Grape Seed Resveratrol and Pomegranate Significantly Lower Blood Pressure

Adults aged 55 and older face a lifetime risk of developing elevated blood pressure greater than 90%, accounting for more than 40 million doctor visits each year and taxing an already overburdened healthcare system. Uncontrolled blood pressure slowly degrades the vascular system throughout the body and takes a particular toll on the kidneys, eyes and delicate arteries around the heart and in the brain.

Small increases in blood pressure place an individual at dramatically increased risk from heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and blindness. Researchers focusing on the antioxidant capacity of grape seed, resveratrol and pomegranate found that regular consumption of these foods can effectively reduce blood pressure without the need for dangerous prescription drugs.

Natural Fruit Polyphenols Lower Cellular Stress and Blood Pressure
Oxidative stress is a significant factor leading to accelerated damage from hypertension. Excess stress prompts changes to the hormone angiotensin that is known to impact blood pressure through an intricate mechanism of vessel and arterial constriction. Natural agents that can lower dangerous levels of cellular oxidative stress are considered paramount to lowering blood pressure in susceptible individuals.

ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme)-inhibitors are among the most popular prescription medications prescribed to negate the effect of the angiotensin hormone, and create a life of misery for many due to the myriad of side effects inherent with this class of drug. Recent research shows that artificially lowering blood pressure with drugs has virtually no effect on cardiovascular disease risk, compared to lowering readings with natural fruit polyphenols, diet and physical activity.

Study Shows That Grape Seed Extract and Resveratrol Can Effectively Lower Blood Pressure
Writing in the journal Metabolism, nutritional scientists compared the effect of grape seed extract and resveratrol on subjects with metabolic syndrome. Three groups were divided to receive either grape seed extract (GSE) at a dose of 150 mg per day, GSE at 300 mg per day or a placebo. After 4 weeks, both GSE supplemented groups experienced systolic blood pressure drops of 5 to 7 percent. This change was considered significant as no other dietary or lifestyle interventions were followed. Researchers believe that GSE and grape-derived compounds including resveratrol can be used to prevent and treat hypertension based on the potent antioxidant load delivered by the fruit extracts.

Pomegranates effectively lower blower blood pressure in a manner similar to GSE and resveratrol as the juice and extracts contain powerful polyphenols that counteract oxidative stress. This magical fruit also is found to lower circulating levels of the angiotensin hormone that can help blood vessels to relax. The result of a study published in the journal Atherosclerosis demonstrated that consumption of pomegranate juice (50 ml per day for 2 weeks) lowered ACE activity by 36%, leading to a 5% drop in systolic blood pressure.

It should come as no surprise to those following a natural health lifestyle that the key to controlling blood pressure and reducing the risk factors that promote cardiovascular disease are not found in a prescription bottle. Fruits such as the pomegranate and formulated natural extracts from red grape skins and seeds deliver powerful health benefits without any of the associated side effects of synthesized pharmaceuticals.

Beware alcohol can damage the eyes and skin

Beware, alcohol can damage the eyes and skin - Alcohol is not only dangerous for your health but can also damage your skin and beauty. Alcohol makes the kidneys work harder all the time to remove toxins from the body. Not only that, alcohol also reduces the amount of vitamin A in the body.

Alcohol can accelerate the aging process by making skin dry. This is because alcohol makes the skin hydrated, while robbed of vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A is needed by the body to renew skin cells. When the body does not have enough vitamin A, skin becomes dry and wrinkled easily.

"The skin is dry and less susceptible to alcohol-induced fluid free radicals that cause many problems such as dark circles, dull skin, dark spots, rough skin texture, and wrinkles," says dermatologist Dr. Rickon Perreira of Mumbai, as reported by the Health Me Up.

Alcohol damage the skin beauty

Consuming too much alcohol can have a bad effect on the skin. If drinking alcohol is still being done, the adverse effects on the skin can become permanent. Alcohol can cause red skin, and easily irritated. In addition, alcohol can also affect the capillaries and blood vessels in the skin.

Addiction to alcohol can damage the capillaries and blood vessels. Causes the blood vessels in the skin and prominent red looks like webs spiders that look beautiful on the skin. Red vessels can also be seen in the eye, so many alcoholics who have red eyes and dry.

In addition, alcohol can also cause bloating and weight gain, and cause the appearance of cellulite. Alcohol makes you hard to get into a deep sleep and REM sleep stages, so it will cause your eyes have dark circles and puffiness. In other words, the alcohol will ruin your beauty.

Alcohol can cause blindness

In addition to affecting the health of skin and body, alcohol also has a very bad effect for eye health. In fact, addiction to alcohol can cause a loss of vision. Too much alcohol can suck all the nutrients out of the body necessary to maintain the health of organs, including the eyes.

Abnormalities caused by alcohol in the eye called alcoholic optic neuritis. This disorder causes damage to the eye that can eventually lead to blindness. Not only the eyes, the hair is also affected by alcohol. Because alcohol reduces the intake of zinc in the body, it causes the hair to become dry and easily damaged, such as branching and broken.

Experts also warn that women are more easily influenced adverse effects of alcohol. alcohol metabolism in women different from men. Process fast metabolism makes women process alcohol faster on their blood flow, so that women also feel the ill effects of alcohol more quickly than men.

After knowing the adverse effects of alcohol on the beauty and health of your eyes above, you should think twice before consuming the drink.

Increased Dietary Fiber Consumption Dramatically Lowers Risk of First Stroke Event

Incidence of stroke in the US and western cultures continues to grow at a staggering rate as it takes the lives of nearly 150,000 Americans each year, making this debilitating illness the fourth leading cause of preventable death. Closely aligned with heart disease and other vascular disorders, stroke is the result of several key modifiable lifestyle factors including smoking, lack of regular exercise and poor dietary choices that promote arterial hardening and blood clots that circulate until they reach a narrowed artery, wreaking permanent disability or death.

Dietary Fiber Improves Blood Lipids and Removes Excess Fats to Lower Stroke Risk
A research team from the University of Leeds in the UK has published the result of a study in the American Heart Association journal, Stroke that explains how taking steps to include more fiber in your diet could help to protect you from suffering a stroke. The study team leader, Dr. Diane Threapelton noted “Most people do not get the recommended level of fiber, and increasing fiber may contribute to lower risk for strokes… we must educate consumers on the continued importance of increasing fiber intake and help them learn how to increase fiber in their diet.

The recommended daily intake for fiber is currently set at 25 grams, yet most people eat less than 10 grams due to the high number of calories consumed from an increasingly ined diet. Food processing removes most nutrients and fiber from foods, while fortifying with added sugars, fats and flavorings to prompt immediate taste satisfaction. Dietary fiber (soluble and insoluble) comes from plants, a critical food source that is grossly lacking in many western diets.

Dramatically Lower Stroke Risk by Including Ten Daily Servings of Fiber
Scientists focused on eight large-scale studies published over a 22 years span that assessed the impact of diet on both ischemic (caused by a blood clot) and hemorrhagic (caused by blood vessel leakage) stroke. After adjusting for risk variables such as smoking and age, the researchers found that for every seven gram increase in fiber consumed daily, risk of first time stroke goes down by seven percent. You would need to consume 6 to 8 servings of grains and 8 to 10 servings of vegetables and fruits daily to yield 25 grams of fiber.

Dr. Threapelton concludedGreater intake of fiber-rich foods such as whole-grains, fruits, vegetables and nuts are important for everyone, and especially for those with stroke risk factors like being overweight, smoking and having high blood pressure. Top sources for dietary fiber include nuts and seeds, legumes, oats, the pulp of some fruits, broccoli and carrots. Eliminating ined convenience foods will allow you to incorporate sufficient fiber from natural sources to significantly lower the risk for a first stroke event.

This homemade Coffee body scrub is a wonderful way to exfoliate your skin. It is also said that the caffeine present in the coffee is a great remedy for treating cellulite. Thus it is believe that apart from exfoliating the skin coffee body scrub also helps in diminishing cellulite. Caffeine is used as a key ingredient in many cellulite eliminating creams and lotions. However there is another theory that contradicts this fact, according to which the caffeine present in the coffee slows down the metabolism rate of the body thus increasing the development of fat pocket.

Whatever be the relation of caffeine with cellulite one thing that is sure is that the Coffee Body Scrub is a great remedy for skin exfoliation.

There are many other variations of coffee body scrub like:

You may use brown sugar instead of sea salt.

Cocoa butter can also be added to the scrub

Physician Survey Shows Docs Prefer ACOs for Their Market Clout Not Quality

      Physicians climb aboard the ACOs
      Talk about spin.

Deloitte has released its 2013 Survey of U.S. Physicians that examines attitudes about health orm and the current practice environment. A random sample of 20,472 physicians from the AMAs master file of physicians were invited to participate.  While only 613 (a 3% response rate) surveys were returned, the DMCB thinks the results are intuitively credible.

What was interesting was how the Deloitte writers chose to report the data.

Most interesting was the description of physician attitudes about accountable care organizations (ACOs).

      Heres Deloittes word-for-word reporting:

"Physicians report that accountable care organizations (ACOs) will be successful to some extent in achieving improved quality (introduction of performance reporting and benchmarking, 37% better identification and closer management of high-risk patients, 28% and improved population health, 21%) and reduced costs (use of lower-cost treatment settings and providers, 21%)."

Exsqueeze me, but this makes the DMCB believe that a majority of respondent physicians do not believe ACOs will be successful in performance reporting and benchmarking (63%), better high risk patient identification and management (72%) or population health (79%). A similar large majority (79%) do not believe cost savings will be be achieved.

So, asks the DMCB, if the numbers are so dreary, why are physicians apparently flocking to work in ACO settings?

      Says Deloitte:

"However, physicians currently working in ACOs diverge from those not in ACOs in their views on capitation bundled payments and Medicaid reimbursements. Three in 10 physicians currently working in ACOs chose to work in an ACO environment with high-quality, evidence based care standards."

So only a minority (30%) of physicians are attracted to ACOs claims that they offer high quality and evidence-based care settings?

      Thats right.  Read on.....

"Physicians identify the trade-offs between larger (e.g., large medical groups, health systems, hospitals, and health insurance plans) versus solo practices. Larger practices are perceived to be better placed to secure superior third-party payer contracts and offer the greatest financial success potential, whereas solo practices are perceived to offer greater clinical autonomy. Larger work settings offer better conditions for contracting with third-party payers (89 percent of all physicians feel this way) whereas clinical autonomy was a valued feature of and more likely to be a feature of solo practices (81 percent of all physicians)."

In other words, when it comes to the grand convergence of physicians and ACOs, its not about quality and efficiency.  Its all about giving up clinical autonomy in exchange for income preservation and the market dominance that leads to local negotiating clout.

The finding - albeit in an imperfect survey - that few docs who work in these settings have faith in the promise of increased quality or efficiency does not bode well for ACOs.

      Stay tuned!

      Soy for a Healthy Liver

Researchers in Mexico found when they fed hyperinsulinemic rats (rats with high blood levels of insulin) diets high in soy protein, it decreased the amount of fat in the rats liver.

People with insulin resistance or diabetes are more likely to have higher levels of insulin in their blood. That insulin can lead to increased production of fatty acids in the liver leading to more pockets of fat in liver cells (hepatocytes).

A fatty liver by itself doesnt damage liver cells. But its sometimes associated with liver inflammation, which can be damaging. The Liver Foundation describes the causes and treatment of fatty liver disease.

How did soy protein protect against fat buildup in the rats liver? It reduced the expression of certain genes responsible for fat production. It was also capable of increasing the breakdown of fat.

Variability Makes Urine Glucose Testing Unreliable

I posted this back in 2008, but it gets a lot of hits so I thought Id repost it.
      ________

Youve just been to the doctor. He found sugar in your urine. But your blood sugars are usually in the 90s fasting, and around 140 mg/dl after meals, at least when you check. And isnt the renal threshold, or the level of blood glucose above which kidneys fail to reabsorb, and thus spill glucose into urine, often stated as 180 mg/dl?

Might your sugars be going higher without you knowing it?

In addition to home testing, a simple A1C test might indicate that fact. 1

However, theres the possibility you could be spilling glucose at levels below 180 mg/dl. A fair amount of normal variability exists in the renal threshold - both among individuals and within an individual - which makes urine testing not a very dependable tool for detecting a high blood glucose.

Here are a few erences I found to that effect:

Tests Of Glycemia In Diabetes, Diabetes Care, 2004
"Reasons why the use of urine glucose testing to estimate blood glucose concentrations in diabetes management is undesirable include the following:
      1. Although the renal threshold for glucose in healthy adults corresponds to a plasma glucose concentration of ~180 mg/dl (10 mmol/l), there is wide individual variation. Of particular importance are findings that adults, especially those with long-standing diabetes, may have substantial increases in this threshold, resulting in underestimation of the blood glucose level. Conversely, children and, particularly, pregnant women may have very low or variable renal thresholds, resulting in overestimation of the blood glucose level.
      2. Fluid intake and urine concentration affect urine test results.
      3. The urine glucose value lects an average level of blood glucose during the interval since the last voiding and not the level at the time of the test.
      4. A negative urine glucose test does not distinguish between hypoglycemia, euglycemia, and mild or moderate hyperglycemia. Thus, urine glucose testing is of limited value in preventing hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.
      5. Urine glucose testing, which uses a color chart with which the test strip color is compared, is less accurate than capillary blood glucose monitoring, which typically uses a digital readout from a lectance meter.
      6. Some drugs interfere with urine glucose determinations.
      7. Evaluation of urine dipsticks reveals high imprecision at low glucose concentrations. Manufacturers claim that the test strips are positive if urinary glucose concentrations are 100 mg/dl or greater, but the data indicate this does not always occur."
Heres an older study that found pretty wide margins, +/- 150 mg/dl, in estimates of blood glucose from urine glucose...

Validity Of Urine Glucose Measurements For Estimating Plasma Glucose Concentration, Diabetes Care, 1983
"Although our observations show a significant correlation (P less than 0.0001) between plasma glucose concentration and urine glucose concentration or urine glucose excretion rate, the wide confidence limits [95% confidence limits (minimum) +/- 150 mg/dl] on plasma glucose concentration estimated from urine glucose measurements limit the clinical applicability of such estimates."
And one that found a mean of 130 mg/dl, much lower than 180 mg/dl, although it was a special population...

The Influence Of Renal Threshold On The Interpretation Of Urine Tests For Glucose In Diabetic Patients, Diabetes Care, 1980
"In a group of 65 insulin-dependent diabetic patients there was a wide variation in renal threshold, with a mean of 130 mg/dl (range 54-180 mg/dl). Threshold tended to rise with age, and it is suggested that the higher the renal threshold, the higher is the mean blood glucose achieved by the patient."
And a even older study, but telling ...

Renal Threshold For Glucose: Normal And In Diabetics, British Medical Journal, 1940
"The study of the renal threshold in diabetics and normals with healthy renal function shows frequent upward and downward deviations from the accepted "normal" figure of some 170 mg. per 100 c.cm.

The conception of a "normal" threshold is false. There is an average renal threshold, just as there is an average blood pressure, and the many deviations from it should be looked upon as physiological -- a matter of individual idiosyncrasy, and of no pathological significance."
      ________

1 HbA1C or just A1C is an abbreviation for glycosylated hemoglobin, blood levels of which can identify average glucose levels for an individual over approximately 120 days, the life span of a red blood cell.

How To Provide Care for the Medicare Medicare Duals The Population Health Management Playbook

The Care Continuum Alliance (CCA) has come out with an important report on how to improve the care of the 9 million persons who are "dual eligible."  These individuals are among the most economically vulnerable and sickest Americans.  They simultaneously qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid and their health care costs are staggering.

The CCA recommendations for the care of duals on a regional or state basis should not be unfamiliar to regular readers of the Disease Management Care Blog: collect the necessary data, risk-stratify the individuals, maximize coordinated care for those at greatest risk, work with the docs, measure outcomes, lather, rinse repeat.

No knowledge base on disease and population health management and dual eligibles is complete without this download.  Check it out and youll learn that....

Data on this population should be centralized, comprehensive and interconnected: This means pooling insurance claims, electronic records, labs and pharmacy and making the data available in health information exchanges.  How else will program planners understand the duals needs, plan programs, foster communication among providers and evaluate outcomes?

The population should be risk stratified.  Health risk assessments are a good option because these persons may drift in and out of dual eligibility.  Incentives should be offered to increase the likelihood that the HRA surveys will be completed.

Professional care planning should be used to to best "position" patients in a coordinated, patient centered and streamlined manner.  This coordination should include providers, pharmacy, behavioral health and long term care to maximize mental health support, rehab, end-of-life care, additional counseling needs and erral to community-based programs.

Provider incentives should use all possible options including capitation, shared savings and bonus payments.  Training and tools should be made available.

Goals for the dual population should be defined and there should be measurement of progress toward those goals.

      What Is Cardiovascular Disorder

To understand Cardiovascular disorder we have to study the function of cardiovascular system. Functions of the cardiovascular system include (1) transporting nutrients to cells, (2) removing waste products through the intestines and other excretory organs, and (3) pumping oxygenated blood from the heart via the arteries and returning deoxygenated blood via the veins. The cardiovascular system works in tandem with the respiratory and nervous systems. It works with the respiratory system by taking the oxygen inhaled into the lungs to the rest of the body, and delivering carbon dioxide from the body to the lungs for expulsion. Impulses from the the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems help regulate the heartbeat.

The heart is a cone-shaped organ, about the size of a clenched fist. Contrary to popular belief, the heart is not on the left side of the chest; it is almost central, but its most prominent pulsation is felt beneath the left nipple. It pumps blood throughout the body and averages 70 beats per minute in an average adult. This is accomplished via nerve impulses and contractions of muscles. The heart is loosely enclosed in a fibrous, protective, bag-like enclosure called the pericardium. The heart is comprised of 4 chambers. The top portion houses the atrium, of which there are right and left valves. The bottom portion of the heart contains the chamber known as the ventricle, of which there are also right and left valves.

Cardiovascular disease comprises of several symptoms and disorders; coronary artery disease (including arteriosclerosis, atherosclerosis, angina and myocardial infarction), hypertension, rheumatic heart disease and congenital heart disease. Coronary artery disease is the most frequent cause of death from cardiovascular disease.

In modern system of medicine, the drugs often used in the treatment are antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, antiadrenergics, diuretics, antianginals and anticoagulants. These drugs are effective but have a number of side effects like severe headaches, mild constipation, shortness of breath, dizziness, loss of appetite, heartburn etc. In chronic cases, the treatment is obviously prolonged.

The herbal system has a number of medicines that not only provide symptomatic relief but attacks the root cause without any known side effects. so we should try some herbal and alternate medicines also by consulting the experts.

How important are vitamins from food—not pills

Every day your body produces skin, muscle, and bone.It churns out red blood that carries nutrients and oxygen to remote outposts, and it sends nerve signals skipping along thousands of miles of brain and body pathways. It also formulates chemical messengers that shuttle from one organ to another. To do all that, your body requires at least 30 vitamins, minerals, and dietary components that your body can’t manufacture in sufficient amounts. So you need to get them from the stuff you eat.

These essential vitamins and minerals are often called micronutrients because unlike the case with macronutrients — protein, fat, and carbohydrates — your body needs only tiny amounts of micronutrients. Yet failing to get these small quantities virtually guarantees disease. Old-time sailors learned that living for months without fresh fruits or vegetables — the main sources of vitamin C — caused the bleeding gums and listlessness of scurvy. In some developing countries, people still become blind from vitamin A deficiency. And even in the United States, some children develop the soft, deformed bones of rickets because they don’t get enough vitamin D

With all the focus on calorie counts, BMI’s, weight, and exercise, getting the important building blocks to our body’s functions, vitamins and minerals, can take a back seat in our daily food planning.  Essential vitamins are not produced by the body and must be included in meals to keep you alive.  While supplements of some nutrients are all the rage, according to the  Dietary Guidelines by experts, “Nutrient needs should be met primarily through consuming foods.

Just as a lack of micro nutrients can cause substantial harm to your body, getting sufficient quantities can provide a substantial benefit. For example, a combination of calcium, vitamin D, vitamin K, magnesium, and phosphorus protects your bones against fractures. Many micro nutrients interact. Vitamin C, for example, helps you absorb iron. The interplay of micro nutrients isn’t always cooperative, however. For example, even a minor overload of the mineral manganese can worsen iron deficiency.

Vitamins are different from minerals. A vitamin’s chemical structure can be broken down by heat, air, or acid, whereas minerals hold on to their chemical structure. That means the minerals in soil and water easily find their way into your body through the plants, fish, animals, and fluids you consume. But it’s tougher to shuttle vitamins from food and other sources into your body because cooking, storage, and simple air exposure can inactivate these fragile components.

Your need for certain nutrients varies with your age, gender, and other important characteristics. As a rule, your best strategy is to get vitamins and minerals from food, not supplements. A vast amount of research has shown that you can cut your risk for chronic disease and disability by following a healthy diet, as well as exercising regularly and avoiding smoking. The evidence for taking vitamin and mineral supplements is much less convincing. There are likely many more beneficial components of healthy foods than the ones scientists have identified so far, as well as synergistic effects among them.

in next post we will discus what to eat to get essentials micro nutrients from food?

      Brief Exercise Immediately Enhances Memory

Results Apply to Older Adults Both With and Without Cognitive Deficits

A short burst of moderate exercise enhances the consolidation of memories in both healthy older adults and those with mild cognitive impairment, scientists with UC Irvines Center for the Neurobiology of Learning & Memory have discovered.

Most research has focused on the benefits of a long-term exercise program on overall health and cognitive function with age. But the UCI work is the first to examine the immediate effects of a brief bout of exercise on memory.

In their study, post-doctoral researcher Sabrina Segal and neurobiologists Carl Cotman and Lawrence Cahill had people 50 to 85 years old with and without memory deficits view pleasant images -- such as photos of nature and animals -- and then exercise on a stationary bicycle for six minutes at 70 percent of their maximum capacity immediately afterward.

One hour later, the participants were given a surprise recall test on the previously viewed images. Results showed a striking enhancement of memory by exercise in both the healthy and cognitively impaired adults, compared with subjects who did not ride the bike.

"We found that a single, short instance of moderately intense exercise particularly improved memory in individuals with memory deficits," Segal said. "Because of its implications and the need to better understand the mechanism by which exercise may enhance memory, were following up this study with an investigation of potential underlying biological factors."

She believes the improved memory may be related to the exercise-induced release of norepinephrine, a chemical messenger in the brain known to play a strong role in memory modulation. This hypothesis is based on previous work demonstrating that increasing norepinephrine through pharmacological manipulation sharpens memory and that blocking norepinephrine impairs memory.

In the more recent research, Segal and her colleagues discovered that levels of salivary alpha amylase, a biomarker that lects norepinephrine activity in the brain, significantly increased in participants after exercise. This correlation was especially strong in people with memory impairment.

"The current findings offer a natural and relatively safe alternative to pharmacological interventions for memory enhancement in healthy older individuals as well as those who suffer from cognitive deficits," Segal noted. "With a growing population of the aged, the need for improvement of quality of life and prevention of mental decline is more important than ever before."

Study results appear in the November, 2012 issue (Volume 32, Number 4) of the Journal of Alzheimers Disease. UCIs Alzheimers Disease Research Center and the National Institute of Mental Health (grant number 575082), a division of the National Institutes of Health, supported the research.
